The Approach

My family sessions center around providing space for parents and children who feel safe enough to express themselves authentically, are entitled to making their feelings and choices heard, and are secure in the understanding that their photography experience matters.

all moments are worth capturing

A photograph is the past and the present

I believe that a photograph is both a time capsule of the past and a touchstone in the present. The memories from when the photograph was taken will always be reflected; however, there are also new memories being made in the interaction of the photograph every time it is perceived and talked about.

When I say "unposed" and "candid", what I mean is...

THese are keywords that probably led you to my photography and approach

"Candid photography" is something you've probably come across quite a lot since researching your photography needs. I think it's a wonderful way to explain the emphasis on taking photos in authentic, unprompted ways. This might look like "I found a bug!" and then looking at the bug and talking about it. It might look like "we love that song," and singing it aloud as a family. It also may be a quiet moment, cloud-gazing and taking in being together.

"Unposed photography" is key to my approach, as it helps prepare you for the understanding that I likely won't be posing you in strict ways throughout the session. I won't be adjusting hand placement, stance, or making your child smile at the camera the entirety of our time together. These are often unrealistic approaches, especially for young families with small children. The rolling belly laughs, the genuine grins, and the moments that make your family real are the moments that I capture.
